our dog has always been allowed on the couches. we've kept him out of the beds by using baby gates, but given access to a bedroom he immediately gets on the bed. now that we're moving to my mom's house, I have to figure out a way to keep him off the couch. he won't get in chairs because they're too small so it's just the couch I have to worry about. I'll still use a gate for the bedrooms. so, any suggestion on how to keep him on the floor?

Buy a couple of six packs of pop, open and drink them but leave the tabs on. Rinse them out and let them dry, fill them with a few dried beans or metal screws, tape over the hole and string them together. Lay the string out on the couch. If they jump on the couch, it wraps aroubd them and the rattle scares the heck out of them.

I'm thinking about treating him like a cat and getting a spray bottle. just spritz him when he gets up there. lol

I think you'll just have to be persistent and keep shooing them off. Hopefully it'll sink in eventually.

I've taken him over there to visit for the past 2 days and so far he hasn't tried to get on the couch, but he's also still exploring (sniffing out everywhere my niece's dog has walked lol).

Whatever it is that he responds to, voice commands, being swatted with a newspaper, the fly swatter, etc, just keep reminding him.

he doesn't respond to anything because we basically dog-proofed our house. if he can reach it, he can have it/sit on. lol although, the water thing might work. yesterday he kept trying to lay in my mom's flower bed so we sprayed him with the hose and he ran off. haha

Get a pet rock instead. Solved your problem.

My grandma had a pet rock too but she'd never let me see it. He was always "sleeping." Damn rocks.

Just came back from visiting my cousin and her new baby but am completely wrecked by my allergies. My eyes are so itchy I want to gouge them out, sneezing, sore throat.
She just had a baby yesterday so I'm not being snarky about her housekeeping but man, pets. She has one big dog and two cats.
My mom is thinking of getting another cat and I've been subtly hinting that she not get a pet that makes me want to kill myself.

so far, the dog is trying his best to sleep on the couch. lol every time he's alone in the living room, he jumps up there. we have to put up barriers. my mom sleeps on the couch (she did before we moved in, so it's not like we ran her out of her bed. lol) and if she gets up at any time during the night, she has to move the dog when she gets back. when we get a little extra money, we're going to see about buying a little kid couch for him ('cause those dog couches are expensive).
